Overview
Sheema is one of the districts in the South Western region of Uganda. It is bordered by Bushenyi in the West, Buhweju in the North, Ntungamo in the south, Mitooma in the South West and Mbarara District in the East. Sheema District headquarters are situated at Kibingo [formerly Sheema County headquarters]. Sheema district has a total area of about 698 Sq. Kilometres.
Historical Background
Sheema District was curved out of Bushenyi district in July 2010, with two Constituencies of Sheema North and Sheema South. The District has a land area of 698.2 square kilometers and a population of 220,300 as of 2012 population projection. Prior to July 2010 when Sheema District effectively started, it was one of the former counties of Bushenyi district called Sheema County. It is now a district with one county of Sheema.
